*In sing-song voice.* Guess who glutened?

*Raises hand and waves it like a maniac in the air.*  Oooo!  Ooooo!  Meee!  Meeee!!!  Yep yours truly has gotten herself in a fine pickle, and it wasn’t “technically” my fault.  Ok, so since going gluten-free I’ve had to give up a lot of my fave munchies.  Which was fine with me until a couple of weeks ago.  I was CRAVING something crunchy.  Something that wasn’t mushy like the mashed potatoes and pasta that I’d been eating.  So I was wondering if Cheetos was gluten-free.  I went to the Frito-Lay website and saw that a lot of their stuff is gluten-free, but here’s the rub.  Their food is processed on machinery that is only washed down in between batches of gluten-full stuff and gluten-free stuff.  So there is a chance of CC.  Well I figured, since they are boasting on their website that their foods are indeed gluten-free that getting CC was a slim chance.  I was wrong.  So wrong.

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been snacking on the cheesy yum-yums thinking I finally found something to make me feel “normal” again.  That is until earlier this week.  I noticed my tummy hurt after eating Cheetos.  At first I thought it was the cheese or grease or salt.  But then as time went on I noticed I got stomach pain, acid, and flushed and rashy face.  Uh oh.  Come to find out, a lot of people with gluten intolerance got sick after eating Cheetos.  Well…damn.    So I have officially given up the “cheesy crack” that I lovingly called it, and called it a sick day.  Well that was yesterday and yep, I’m still sick.    Trying not to focus on it right now, but I am really bad off tonight.  I know I won’t be getting any peace tonight.  I took some Tums and I feel a tiny bit better.  Maybe I will get a little sleep tonight.  All I know is I am going to start counting calories again today and sticking with only the items I know are gluten-free.

I baked some Betty Crocker Gluten-Free cookies today and I have mixed reviews on them.  They are made from the same stuff as the Betty Crocker Yellow Cupcakes.  At first I didn’t like the smell or taste of the cupcakes but when they got cold I liked them better.  Now with the cookies, they had the same smell, and straight out of the oven they were very crumbly.  Now in order to mix the cookie dough I had to stick my hand in the bowl and mash it all together because it just was so crumbly and wouldn’t mix in so I wasn’t surprised that they were the same straight out of the over.  But if you let it sit a few minutes…like it says on the box , they actually looked like normal chocolate chip cookies.  The taste was ok, but even using a stick of butter they missed that buttery taste and well I guess the taste of “regular” flour.  It’s something I could get used to I’m sure of it, and it really isn’t that bad, but I miss the old taste of chocolate chip cookies.  Meh, I’ll get over it.  And if anything it makes me crave cookies less.  I still have a big hunk of the batch I made in the fridge and my family helped me with a few of them.

But yeah I’ve been dealing with feeling icky as of late.  I need to catch up with people online, and I’m so sorry if I have not responded to you yet, but I just have wanted to lay in bed and finish watching a Korean drama I started a while ago.  It ended ok, but I wish it would have ended a slightly different way.  If anyone is curious, “My Girlfriend is a Nine-tailed Fox” is super cute.  You’ll have to do a bit of searching to find it, but just it’s worth it.  Mi Ho is soooo cute and you can’t help but smile and laugh at her antics.

But that’s all I have to say in this post.  Just trying to touch base with you all.  I have some doll stuff I wanted to chat about, but I will do that in another post coming up in a few minutes.  Bye until then.

Windows XP error 0x24 or Stop 0x24 message.

Hey all, this is just a quick post I’ve been meaning to type up.  A while back my other laptop, that still needs it’s casing fixed. , had an error message when I tried to log into windows.  It was a Stop 0x24 message.  Now, while I consider myself somewhat techie, I had a problem fixing this.  My computer wouldn’t log on, it wouldn’t accept my backup disk, and I couldn’t get in there to run a Check Disk.  So I thought I had to get a professional to fix it.  But I was worried about someone seeing things on my computer that I wouldn’t be there to explain.  Example being me with my hair a mess or a ton of doll pictures, some of them nude…those were for comparison pictures people and you’ve seen them all here.  LOL!  But not only was that a problem, the thought of losing all my files was a problem too.  I had a lot of stuff that couldn’t be replaced.  That wasn’t sitting so well with me.  So I tried searching for another option.  It was through my sister I found one.

Her friend introduced her to the free operating system Ubuntu.  She let me borrow her disk and I suddenly had access to my files.  Woo hoo!  Ubuntu save my files!  Now wait a minute!  Get back here!  Don’t go running off to get the dang thing just yet.  There’s a process I went through in order to do this and if you do it another way you may lose you files either way.

Ok, so here goes.  First, you need another computer to do this.  Most of us have at least two computers in our pad or a really good friend who can help us out, so get thee to that computer.  Second. you are going to need something to put Ubuntu on.  My sister burned it onto a disk.  I’m not sure if it would work on a flash drive, but you can try it out.  Ok, once you have that, pop it into your affected computer.  It’ll load up Ubuntu and give you the option to use it from the source or to install it.  DON’T INSTALL IT!!!  If you plan on keeping your files then just use Ubuntu from the disk.  If not then go ahead and install.

Once Ubuntu fully loads, Now it’s been a while since I used it, but the tabs at the top of the desktop are what you are going to use.  The work similar to Windows with drop down menus.  You are looking for something that says “local disk”.  I believe it’s under the first tab.  When you click on that you can gain access to your documents.  From this point you can put in a flash drive and save your files.  I also had files on my desktop I wanted, so I had to go and search for my desktop to find it and get my files.  I can’t remember what that was listed under but it’s under the same link.

Once you get all your files off your computer and safely stored away, you are going to want to restart your computer.  I’m not sure if it will work by simply restarting it from the menu or if you will have to turn it off and turn it back on, but you want to get back to that screen that offers to install Ubuntu.  When you get back there you want to click to install it now.  This will take a bit, but once it is install it will have completely wiped out Windows XP from your system.  This is what you want.  Now you can decide to keep Ubuntu if you want.  It’s not a bad system, but you have to log onto the internet with an Ethernet cable and a lot of things won’t work on it and you will have to find Ubuntu alternatives for it.  So I decided to go back to good old Windows XP.

So if you want Windows XP back, you are going to want to put your recovery disk or Windows XP disk into the computer reinstall it.  Now here’s the kicker.  Once it’s all installed, you will have to go find all your drivers because Ubuntu took all those suckers out.  Now it may be a little tricky to find them due to the fact that Microsoft stopped having support for Windows XP, but you can start here to find the drivers. I was lucky and did this before they stopped the support.  But the drives are out there.  I’m on a Vista computer right now or I’d try it out to see how it works.  If anyone tries it, let me know how easy or hard it was to find.

After you get your drivers back, all that’s left to do is put all your files back on your computer and reinstall your programs and it’s business as usual.    It shouldn’t take more than a few hours to do all this.  Now I know there are many ways to fix this problem, but this was the one I found worked easiest for me, and I thought I’d just share it with whoever may be in need of this.  I don’t know if this error is with other versions of Windows, but I assume that this method would work much the same way.  So good luck and I hope I could help you with your computer problem.

I want to be crafty.

But instead I am focusing on some paper work I need to get done.  It’s ok, this weekend will be for crafting.  But it would be nice to craft to get my mind off things.  Without getting into to much detail the person who I spoke about in a previous post seems to want to start a war with my friends and it’s just ridiculous and it’s bothering me.  I have already said twice to the person I wish them well and to take care, and still it’s an ongoing thing.  I swear only the crazy crafty/doll people online are the sane ones.    I’m just going to try to forget the whole thing and them and move on.  It’s stupid and I’m tired of constantly having to check on things to make sure my friends are behaving.  Meh.  People are weird.  I should have listened to what everyone was telling me about them and looked at all the red flags, but a little to late I suppose.    I just want to focus on getting back into the craft and doll community now and leave all that mess in the past.  So that is my goal for the rest of the year.  That and trying to finish my MUCH neglected Nano.  Oh and to merge my blogs into one and a half…half being my cross-post blog.  I need to go check on comments again and just get caught up.  That’s what weekends were invented for I suppose. 

Went to my local Big Lots today and they changed it BIG time.  It looks SO much nicer.  My mom and I noticed how it looked like a “real” store instead of an excess dump for businesses.  I also found a doll there I want but wanted to think about it.  Here’s hoping it’s still there tomorrow.

Oh, so my quest for turkeys turned out to be a bust. No ribbon and only too large pattern fabric.    My sister said she’d draw me a turkey and I can try using my printable fabric for the first time.  Sweet!  We’ll see how that turns out.  I can still cross stitch one on if it comes to it.  What else?  OHHHH, my sister showed me the Hello Kitty shop in town and I was in heaven.  They also sell other Asian stuff, but the Hello Kitty stuff was TOO cute.  They will be getting Asian music next year which I am looking forward to.  You know I must seem like I only love Asian music.  LOL!  I assure you I don’t.  I like other stuff too.  I will post some new stuff to show my other interests as well.

Hummm, what else?  Oh yes, the lovely model up there is my cat Holly.  My sister took a picture of her with her new cell phone and I just had to post her for smiles.    Did I get any?   I’m hoping I got tons.  Ok, so new posts coming soon.  I have several things to share.  Until then I’m off to work on a slowly dying Nano and some paperwork.  I don’t know if I will win Nano this year, and right now I’m ok with it.  But I’m not throwing in the towel just yet.    Bye for now.

Ever wonder why?

You ever wonder why certain people come and go from our lives and though you are sure they were there for a reason you really can’t explain why o4 what that reason was.  I like to think people come into your life to better your life in a positive way.  But I've recently learned that some people come in your life to better it but in in a negative way.  I’ve learned a lot this past year about people and I’m glad I met a certain individual who taught me one of life’s hard lessons to learn.  If you read this, I wish you well and hope that you do well in life and can finally do all the things you set out to do in life.  And I’m sorry things didn’t work out better between us.

If you are a dolly pal or a pal I am on talking terms with in general that ^^ was not aimed at you.    Now that I have closed the door on that little bit of drama for good, back on to dolly stuff.  Do you know it is virtually impossible to find Thanksgiving fabric?!?  I mean I went several places in town and I found some in Hancock Fabrics, but nothing nice or grossly out of scale even for Blythe who can handle slight scale shift.  At Hobby Lobby and Joann’s they only had harvest related fabrics.  *sigh*  Thanksgiving, the poorly misunderstood and unloved holiday.  Well I’m sure it’s loved for it’s yummy foods, football, and Black Friday planning, but other than that, nothing.  Well it was after a hard day of hunting that my mom came up with a grand idea.  Surely I can find Thanksgiving ribbon in town.  I can sew it onto the project I want to make.   And then my mom said if I can’t find ribbon I can always cross stitch a turkey onto the item.  Hummm…true.  Let’s just say I’d rather find the ribbon, but then again how much time could cross stitching a little turkey take?  Ok just asking that makes me realize how long it will actually take.  LOL!

But that is what I am working on at present.  Oh that and packaging and business cards.  I like my packaging idea.  It pulls from The Goodie Bag that I once had as my shop.  I’ll show you what my packaging looks like when I get it all done.  So yeah, that’s about it.  Nothing exciting really going on.  Kind of wish there was.  I’m bored in a big kind of way, but hopefully that will pass.  Oh one cool thing, I heard through as friend of my mom’s that there is a place in town beside Kroger that sells gluten-free food.  So I am going to go check that out some time in the next week.  And my boyfriend, he’s so cute, he was in the store yesterday buying some food and he saw gluten-free oatmeal and though of me.  I can’t be the only one who sees little things our guys do as being cute, right?

Melly Kay Customs

Hey guys, I am back with another post.  I couldn’t sleep due to tummy issues so I thought I’d try to catch up on some blogs.  I stopped over at a blog I’ve just recently started reading and saw she was having a giveaway in her first interview on BlytheLife.  So I thought I’d take this mo’ to tell you guys about Melly Kay, her creations, her interview, and her giveaway.

 

I first learned about Melly Kay through a crafty blog, one of my other fave kind of blogs to read.  She was heavy into making miniature clay food.  If you click that link you will be take to a picture of clay peaches she made.  Just looking at them makes your mouth water at the thought of how good a peach would taste right at this minute.  Her clay foods don’t stop there either.  If you look at the whole set you will see a wide variety of foods from cakes to breads to even meat.

Around January of this year Melly Kay started customizing Blythe dolls with her unique sense of whimsy.  I love what she can do with some hair, pastels, color pencils, paint, and eye chips.  She creates a unique look with each doll she customizes.

Etsy or Artfire? You help me decide.

Hey guys, I don’t really have much of a blog for you today.  I’ve been busy sleeping, making horrible smelling gluten-free cupcakes and frosting from the package, and making a new shop logo I am actually happy with for once.  Now I just need to update some things in my policies, take some pictures, upload descriptions, and I’m in business baby!  I hope to have more details on that very soon.  But I do have two things for you lovely peeps.  First an awesomely done stop motion doll video with my fave cover of Raidohead’s “Creep”.  Have a look.

Next up is a poll.  If you want to just skip the lengthy babble that follows and just vote in the poll, feel free to.  It’s pretty self explanatory.  All others interested in what I have to say please continue to read.    I’ve been hesitating putting this poll up for one reason or another, but I really want to know what you guys think.  I have accounts made on both Etsy and Artfire, but I don’t know which to open shop up at.  I know Etsy has the traffic and Artfire is SLOWLY up and coming.  But either way I’d have to market myself to get any traffic at my shop, so it’s not really a traffic thing for me when it comes to the doll items.  But I also want to make human items too.  In this case I think the traffic Etsy has would play a big part in me selling those items.  I’ve been checking both sites’ page rankings and while Etsy is 100 something Artfire is like 1000 something I believe.  Not really good when trying to sell in a big market.

Now my reason for wanting to use Artfire is because listing is free.  I’d kind of like to make some money before trying out Etsy.  But if the traffic isn’t there then I won’t make money anyway.  However, on Etsy to keep being seen you have to constantly relist or just list every day an item or two.  I could do the daily listing but I don’t want to do the relisting.  That is just to expensive for me in the end.  I’m willing to put a few bucks investment into Etsy to try it out.  I know my products will stay listed for 4 months and that’s plenty of time to promote and have deals to sell.  I just worry if I don’t make any money on what I am trying to sell that my shop will flop, but I guess that’s the risk you take when you attempt this kind of thing.  I honestly thought I had everything figured out, but after certain things I’ve read about both places I’m still up in the air.  *sigh*

When I think of Etsy and Artfire I see Artfire as being Myspace and Etsy as being Facebook.  For those of you who don’t understand, Artfire allows you to make your own shop up and use colors and backgrounds and you can even have a music player with your own music playing on your shop page.  You can have pictures of your dog, cat, Aunt Mae in your shop as well on your bio.  Now this is just all gaudy to me.  Really gaudy and not professional at all, kind of like Myspace that let’s you put up any backgrounds, music, pictures, etc. that you want…one of the reasons I closed mine.  Now Etsy on the other hand is all business all the way.  Same uniformed look for the most part, allowing you some customization in the forum of a profile picture and banner.  Very similar to Facebook.  I like the organized look of it and the cleanness of it.  I truthfully like everything about Etsy, except a few things.

Your items aren’t listed in search engines, you have to do it yourself from what I read.  Now here’s the thing, I don’t tend to use search engines to shop for handmade.  I tend to go to Etsy and sometimes Artfire directly and search for items that way.  So does SEO really matter in this count?  Do a lot of people search through Google for a handmade Blythe dress or fingerless gloves?  The way people talk it seems so, but I just don’t feel that’s the case.  Artfire does list items in search engines, even for basic accounts, but of course pro accounts get more acknowledgement.  Etsy doesn’t do that at all, so it makes me wonder if that would affect my sales.

Another thing that bothers me about Etsy is lack of customer support.  I’ve heard it can take days to weeks for you to hear back from Etsy when you have a problem.  I don’t like that.  I want help when a problem arises, not when it’s convenient to Etsy.  I mean you are giving them a cut of your sales so they should be very forthcoming with the help.  I’ve even heard cases where you won’t get a response at all.  Ummm…how is this good business?

Another thing about Etsy is they are seriously lacking in the sellers tools that Artfire and other sites already have.  That doesn’t work for me.  I like the things that Artfire has to offer for sellers, but of course that is if you become pro.  At this point both sites are even for me on that case, and I did think about becoming pro, but I just don’t like their attitude that if you are basic you are not considered one of the team really, and more of just a moocher.  Which makes me like Etsy more on that count again because no matter what, if you sell or buy on there you can participate on everything the site has to offer.  It makes for a nicer community to me.  So I am on the fence about which to go to.  I know I should just do both, which I was thinking do Artfire first and then slowly move to Etsy and then decide.  But then again I could just bit the bullet and jump into Etsy feet first and just really promote and work up my shop there.  So that is where you come in lovely readers.  If you have gotten this far, thankies for reading or just jumping ahead to take my poll.

Bored!

It’s the middle of an extra long night.  It should be almost 4:30 in the morning but we fell back so it’s almost 3:30 in the morning instead.  *sigh*  Well I decided to do a quick blog I’ve been meaning to do for a week now, before jumping into some writing.

So my mom sent me a forward email with pictures our childhood heroes, but with a twist.  The pictures are of our heroes either as a how they aged or as a what are they up to now kind of picture.  Let’s start with the aged pictures shall we?

Ok, so what is up today?  Much of nothing really.  Got on the scale and saw that the gluten-free rice cakes I’ve been loving on have caused me to retain water and have made me feel like I’m STARVINGGGGGG.  So I am going to have to do away with those I think because beforehand I wasn’t hungry and was losing weight.  Now?  Not so much.  Ugh!  Oh well, starting over tomorrow.  Last night I even broke down and had some DOTS, yep candy.  Starting over with that too I guess, or I may just have to allow myself that one vice.

I haven’t had some doll news on her in a while and I miss talking about dolls so I’m going to pop some on here now. 

Here’s Penelope modeling one of the 10 empire dresses I sewed up in the past week or so.  This dress was suppose to be done and posted in my shop by now, but it’s not done yet.  I want to add more too it and just haven’t found the energy to do so.  I need a burner placed under my butt to get me going.  Heheh, 100 pretend dollars to the person who can tell me what I am watching in the background.    Somehow I think I know who will figure it out.

A slightly closer view of the dress.  The spots on the dress kind of make me think of dog bones for some reason.  The connected ones do anyway.  I want to name all my dresses, and some I’m thinking of calling this one “Spot” or “Sit Spot, sit.”  I’ve got 6 more empire dresses I need to sew but I need some fabric for it first and then I will be moving on to another kind of item to sew up.

Here is a picture for a future post about some stuff I recently got.  I wanted to show off my poor Ann Marie that need some hair therapy.  I am going to have to give her a boiling water hair treatment over the course of several days and see if that will fix her hair.  If not then I will have to get her a new scalp and root it will saran hair or maybe mohair.  Hate the ADG Blythe hair, but I want to get one more of them because I love her pretty face.

Humm, anything else for this post?  Humm.  Oh, so my writing has been kind of suffering due to me preferring to game or do something else.  And it doesn’t help that I stay up into the butt crack of dawn and then sleep the day away.  Ughhhh!!!  I need to go out and get fabric but my stomach has been feeling like poo, but I really think it’s the rice cakes that have been making feel hungry all the time that’s doing it.  So I’m going to give them up for a couple of days and see.  I’m like a constant science experiment here.  LOL!  Ok, I have some more to talk about this post if getting long so I will make another post or two to talk about them.  Or maybe I should type them up and just have them scheduled over the course of the week.  Maybe I’ll do that.  I’ll think about it.  More later kids.

Yay!  My 333rd post!  For those of you who have been reading for a while you know this has meaning to me.  This is kind of a bittersweet post for me.  I had special plans for this post.  I wanted it to be the post I mentioned some things I have been working on, but those things still have yet to happen.  I’ll be honest, I just haven’t had the energy.  I’m still working on going gluten-free.  It just isn’t coming easy for me, and my stomach is still not 100% happy.  I don’t know if it’s due to healing or what, but it’s not happy at all.  For the past week, I kid you not, I’ve been living off of rice cakes, frozen yogurt, and candy.  Yep.  Today was the first day in a while I decided to cook for myself.  As of yesterday I am a month gluten-free and decided this month I am giving up candy, but only for a month.  So far so good.  And I am forcing myself to find recipes that I can cook.   Tonight I made breaded baked chicken.  I crushed up some Corn Chex cereal, dipped chicken in egg and put it in the bag with the Chex and GF spices and shook it.  Put it in a sprayed pan and baked it for 17 minutes.  It was pretty good.  The spices I used were salt, pepper, basil, onion powder, and garlic powder.  No real measurements on them, it was just a look at and decide if it was good.  I made some mash potatoes while it cooked, this time with Betty Crocker buds instead of by hand, and that was dinner.  I was going to make some corn, but got lazy by then because someone else decided to pop on the kitchen and start cooking and I felt closed in.  Oh well, it was still good.  With chocolate rice cake for dessert.  I feel a little better, but sleepy now.  *yawn*

What else?  Oh, working on Nanowrimo this year, but my heart is slowly weakening on wanting to do it this year.  I don’t know why.  I had an outline partially worked out, but decided 6 hours before Nano started that I didn’t want to do that story right now.  So I took another story idea and jotted down 5-10 notes and left it at that until midnight.  It’s coming along ok and I have high hopes for the novel, I’m just not feeling it this year.  I think it’s because I’ve become a hermit again due to tummy upsetness.  Yep, upsetness is a word…or at least it should be.  But yeah, just don’t feeling it this year.  I want to focus on my sewing, which by the way I am so furious at myself about.

I have ten dresses sewn and ready to go up in a shop, but three of them have to wait for me to get some other fabric so I can sell it as a set.  But of course I need to add snaps and embellishments to them and I am just not doing it and I don’t know why.  I’m sure it’s the depression.  Just feeling sad as of late due to my stomach feeling bad still, not like before, but like a dull discomfort which keeps me from wanting to leave the house.  It’s more the swollen sinuses that make it hard to breathe due to food reactions and/or acid reaction.  That makes me panic when I feel I can’t breathe and being out in public when that happens is so not what I want.  But I don’t want to lock myself away, so sometime this week I am forcing myself out of the house.  I’ve just been curling up in bed with my laptop and surfing the web or gaming.  Hummm.

Ok, I’m torturing myself right now.  On QVC they are showing off some supersized bakeware, and well, you know how they demonstrate it.  They are showing yummy food, most of which I can’t touch.  But I like watching it because I love baking and love the way food look.  it can be very pretty if it turns out right.  But this bakeware set is gigantic, further encouraging the girth of Americans.  Meh.  Oh well.

So what else can I tell you?  I got sidetracked with a phone call from a friend who’s not doing so well.  If any of you are spiritual or religious in anyway please have a good thought for my friend and hope that she is able to achieve all the things she needs to in order the better further the lives of her and her children.  Thankies in advance.

Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween guys and ghouls!  I know I’m a little early, but we had our trick-or-treat today due to making the church folks happy.  Do you know they don’t have Halloween parties in school anymore?  They call them Fall/Autumn festival.  The kids can dress up, they crave pumpkins, there’s candy, but it’s not Halloween.  Umm, wha???  Oh well, whatever makes them happy I suppose.

Here is my layout for Halloween.  I figured put it up now to be festive.  I haven’t worked on the one for Thanksgiving yet.    I’ve been either busy sewing, gaming, or being sick.  Meh.  So now I have to work on that tomorrow.  Tonight I am going to work on my novel outline that I didn’t finish either.  The Sims have kept most of my attention.  It’s addictive, what can I say?  LOL!  But yeah that’s what has been keeping me busy as of late.  I hope I can finish the Thanksgiving layout before tomorrow night.  Fingers crossed.

I had a fun night tonight.  I had my friends over to celebrate, even though it didn’t go according to plan.  We missed out on some thing but we are so having a do-over.  I got to see my friend Robin’s kids all together for the first time.  It was so much fun seeing her oldest that I knew back when I was a teenager and telling her how me and her mom were back in the day.  She was picking on her baby sister likes to rip her clothes off whenever Robin dresses her, and I surprised her letting her know she was a little stripper herself back in the day.  LOL!  It was fun.  Did some karaoke, had WAYYYY to much sugar, and now I am crashing hard, but I wanted to make a quick post to say hi to everyone and wish you all a happy and safe Halloween.  And save some candy for me!    Ok peeps, I’m off.  I’m tired, I need to set a tape for a movie I wanted to watch tonight, and then maybe crash the rest of the night.   I’ll be playing catch up later on blogs, comments, and email.  Yep let it slip some again, but I will be catching up on those tomorrow.  Bye for now peeps and peepettes.
