Bald Beauties

Hey all.  I know, I said I was on hiatus, and I still am technically, but I had to blog about this when I saw it. It was mentioned at Toy Fair, but I didn’t find out about it until now and thought maybe others hadn’t either.

So this month Toys R Us released a set of Bratz and Moxie Girlz dolls that have no hair.  The reason for this is to promote giving hope to children with cancer. This just touched my heart when I saw it on the Toys R Us website. I was just “window shopping” and I saw these dolls didn’t have hair.  My first thought was that they looked like they had cancer and when I read the description I was in shock to see the dolls were indeed cancer patients.  This just touched my heart.  Can you imagine being a little girl or boy with cancer and getting a doll that looked just like you and reminded you every day to have hope and to stay strong and be happy?  Just beautiful.  Each doll that is purchased will donate a dollar to City of Hope for cancer research.

And after much prodding from fans, Barbie is going to join in the support. Fans asked Mattel to make a bald Barbie in support of children dealing with cancer and alopecia.  So Barbie will have a friend who will be dealing with cancer and who will have hats, wigs, and scarves to accessorize her bald beauty. However Mattel is not putting Barbie’s friend into stores.  More like they will be making a few dolls to donate as well as donating some money to CureSearch for Children's Cancer and the National Alopecia Areata Foundation.  It’s kind of a bummer they aren’t more global with this doll since they could make money for the cause by offering these dolls for sale, but hey they weren’t going to do anything at all so at least it’s something right?

So yeah, had to share this with you all.  I think it’s pretty amazing for these companies to do this.  Actions like this renew faith in humanity.    And on that note I will take off again.  Dealing with some stressful stuff here as usual. My dad has a surgery coming up, stomach issue is still my bff, and just little stresses tucked in here and there just in case I didn’t have enough to deal with.  Meh.  I’ll deal.  Hope all is well with all of you.   I’ll be back soon.  Be good until then.  Bye for now lovelies.

Grady the Giraffe

Isn’t Grady awesome?!?  Well to be “PC” his full name is Grady the Giraffe, and I love him.  I mean honestly what’s not to love about it?  I mean first of all, he’s a giraffe.  Second of all, look at that retro vintage replica fabric he’s made out of.  And third of all, did I mention he’s a freaking giraffe?!?  I know right?!?  Wait?  What?  You aren’t that impressed with Grady?  Color not jazzing with you?  No worries.    There’s a Grady for everyone!   Observe.

Perhaps something more sunny for those you who are mourning the loss of your beloved Summer.  It’s ok guys, only 6 more months and it will warm up again.  You can do it.    Come on, you’ve got to be looking forward to the bitter cold and blizzards some parts of the world are bound to have this Winter.    Humm, no?  *rolls eyes*  Ok, give me one more try guys.  I’ve got one more trick under my sleeve.

Pink, girlie, cute, and pretty all wrapped into one. What is not to love?  I ask you.  Honestly?  I mean what’s cuter than a guy not afraid to wear pink.  He’s awesome, n'est pas?  Humm, I’m starting to think that perhaps I’m the only one who loves as Grady as much as I love Grady.  I just don’t see why Grady doesn’t have an awesome following.  He’s super cute in all the fabric choices, and has a different personality for each one.  He’s unique almost like…ummm…hummm….Pokémon!  Yeah!  And you simply have to collect them all.  LOL!  Humm, collect them all.  Doesn’t sound half bad.  Hey the two of you from before who said you’d buy me a Grady for $14.98…could we possible make it all of them for $74.90 plus tax and shipping?    Hey, where are you going?!?    I still stand behind what I said before, tough crowd. 

But seriously guys, I just had to make this post to share the awesomeness of Grady.  I think one of the main reasons I like him is because Grady for some reason makes me think of the name Brody, which is one of my dogs’ names.  And Grady seems like this silly big loppy animal kind of like our Brody.  Brody is big and loveable but also has his kind of silly look and way about him.  So I love Grady for that.  The vintage looking fabric also helps, I love the look of vintage fabric and vintage replica or vintage themed fabric.  So this guy is perfect for me…except for the price.  LOL!  15 dollars is a bit to much for me to spend on a stuffed animal, so I will just admire him from afar.  Oh and of course add him to my Pinterest for easy viewing of course.  LOL.

And now I am off my lovelies.  I am going to settle down and watch a movie or two before going to sleep.  My sleep pattern is off again sadly, and I need to work on sorting it back out before I am waking up around 5 p.m. again instead of 10 a.m.  I’ll worry about it tomorrow night.  Tonight it’s movie time.    Talk to you later.  Be good until then.  Bye for now.

Dollhouse building with Darlybird.

Ok, so as some of you know, I’m desperately waiting for the day to come where I will be called mommy.  And during that wait I like to read mommy blogs and read their stories about how they raise their children…I consider it studying and note-taking while I am waiting.  Anyway, through one of these blogs I found my way to another mommy blog called Darlybird, where the lass/mommy who writes the blog decided last year to make a dollhouse for her little girls.  She first showed off the doll house which I really liked the look of.  She did pretty good considering she’s not a collector and she made a lot of stuff by hand by getting creative.  She then got some questions about how she made her dollhouse and decide to post how she came to make her house.  In one of her posts it kind of made me giggle how she came across “something called Re-ment” and she fell in love.  Remember when we all had that fall in love moment with Re-ment?   I know I do.    But yeah, she found them on Ebay and went to town with it.  She also did some shopping in thrift stores, dollar stores, and craft stores and created some very interesting pieces and interesting rooms.  I wanted to share her posts with you all, so feel free the click the links below to learn how she made the house in the picture above.

In the first post about the dollhouse the mommy blogger mentioned that you could also make a “dollhouse” for your son too, and it got me to thinking.  How would you make a “dollhouse” for your son?  I was thinking you could make a military headquarters for them to play in, or a really neat car garage to play in.  But then again, I wouldn’t be against making an actual dollhouse for them, just with less pinks and focusing on more blues.  Maybe making a Ken doll or G.I. Joe a bachelor pad.  I think it would be fun and inventive to try to turn this around for a boy. 

So the mommy of Darlybird mentions in her last post about the dollhouse that she didn’t want her daughters to play with Barbie, but when she was pregnant with her second daughter she came across the highly controversial Pregnant Midge doll all that changed.  She thought it would be fitting for her daughter to have the doll since she was pregnant and it would be a nice teaching aid showing her little one how her new sibling would come into the world, in Barbie terms of course.    She didn’t want her girls to play with Barbie because she worried about image issues and the lack of clothing Barbie tends to be “not” wearing.  So her and her hubby came up with an idea, to buy all their Barbie clothing from Etsy.  I think this is a great idea.  It helps to support the handmade movement, you will get better quality items, and you get more conservative and nicer looking items for your dolls.  I think if I have girls I will go this way too while also making them clothes for their dolls too.

So yeah, just wanted to share Darlybird’s dollhouse with you.  I think she did a great job and was very crafty and creative with it.  She wishes she could make another one this year because it was so fun.  I was thinking instead of making a new one maybe she could have modeled it.  Freshen things up or change things around or add to it.  I mean, I don’t see a closet in the house, and we all know Barbie has a wardrobe that would make Mariah Carey’s wardrobe look like…well mine.  LOL!  She could go all out purchasing new clothing for her daughter’s dolls and making a fancy walk-in closet for them.  She could also consider adding a garage to the house.  And the top of the house looks naked.  I bet it would look nice with a rooftop garden or patio.  So much potential there.  I really hope I have a girl or two who's into dolls.  But heck, even if she’s into G.I. Joe we are SO making a dollhouse together.  LOL!  Ok, talk to you all soon.  Bye for now.

The awesomeness of tilt-shift.

So I’m sure you have all seen those cool pictures out there of places and people that look like dolls or miniatures but they are actual places and pictures that have just been manipulated to look so.  That manipulation is call tilt-shift.

So basically what happens is that the manipulation, or miniature faking, used with cameras and photo imaging software causes a blur to real life images, I’m assuming like if you were using a macro lens, and it makes the item you are taking a picture of look slight distorted and more like a miniature than a real like thing.  If you google tilt-shift you will get a lot of images people have taken and done such a thing to.  One of the first places I got introduced to tilt-shift is through Uniqlo’s online calendar.  If you have not checked that out, you have to, it’s so awesome.  I first heard of Uniqlo due to the cool screensaver with Asian women dancing…it’s not as bad as it sounds, you can find that through the site too.

But back to tilt-shift, I found this interesting since I love miniature scale and love how the picture make things look mini replicas or dollhouses even.  Now if you don’t have the interest of trying this yourself with your own camera or don’t have to know-how to do it, there are programs online that will do it for you.

TiltShift Maker will take any picture, doesn’t have to be your own, and it with some pushes of some tabs you can make your own tilt-shift picture.  The pictures above are ones of an actual house I took from Google and manipulated with the TiltShift Maker tabs.  Try it out and see what you can come up with.  There can be people in the picture, it can be landmarks, or inside of buildings.  The only thing is the pictures tend to look better when you have a good distance between the camera and the focal point.

Now this last one I had a little bit of fun with.  It’s of an actual dollhouse.  When I first saw the picture I had a second where I wondered if it was a real house or dollhouse.  When I saw it was a dollhouse I wondered if there was a way I could make it look distinctly like a dollhouse and not allow for second guessing.  I think I may have succeeded, not sure how the dollhouse creator would feel about that though.  LOL!

So yeah, I just wanted to share my new fascination as of late.  I know I am behind on a lot of things online, as usual, but I’ve been busy crafting and writing.  I am way behind on my Nano count and I wanted to be done by Thanksgiving.  I only have a few days left.  And it seems on Thanksgiving that is when my sister and I will finally get to see the new Harry Potter movie.  I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers, no not about the plot but of things added to the movie or how they did certain things, but I find it to be so hard to avoid.  Damn you popular franchise.  Can’t wait to see it. 

Ok, I’m off people.  I have tons of writing to do, oh and I’m trying to get back into college and I need to get some forms signed for that as well.  Ugh!  Time is running out for everything!!!  *takes deep breath*  Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.  Just have a lot on my plate, and I’m not hungry but have to force myself to eat, if you get what I mean.  If I owe you a response to an email or comment, I’m super sorry and please know I will be getting back to you soon.  Next year my new year’s resolution is to become more organized and stay on top of things.  We’ll see how well that goes.   Ok, talk to you lovelies later.

Happy Halloween!!!

Happy Halloween guys and ghouls!  I know I’m a little early, but we had our trick-or-treat today due to making the church folks happy.  Do you know they don’t have Halloween parties in school anymore?  They call them Fall/Autumn festival.  The kids can dress up, they crave pumpkins, there’s candy, but it’s not Halloween.  Umm, wha???  Oh well, whatever makes them happy I suppose.

Here is my layout for Halloween.  I figured put it up now to be festive.  I haven’t worked on the one for Thanksgiving yet.    I’ve been either busy sewing, gaming, or being sick.  Meh.  So now I have to work on that tomorrow.  Tonight I am going to work on my novel outline that I didn’t finish either.  The Sims have kept most of my attention.  It’s addictive, what can I say?  LOL!  But yeah that’s what has been keeping me busy as of late.  I hope I can finish the Thanksgiving layout before tomorrow night.  Fingers crossed.

I had a fun night tonight.  I had my friends over to celebrate, even though it didn’t go according to plan.  We missed out on some thing but we are so having a do-over.  I got to see my friend Robin’s kids all together for the first time.  It was so much fun seeing her oldest that I knew back when I was a teenager and telling her how me and her mom were back in the day.  She was picking on her baby sister likes to rip her clothes off whenever Robin dresses her, and I surprised her letting her know she was a little stripper herself back in the day.  LOL!  It was fun.  Did some karaoke, had WAYYYY to much sugar, and now I am crashing hard, but I wanted to make a quick post to say hi to everyone and wish you all a happy and safe Halloween.  And save some candy for me!    Ok peeps, I’m off.  I’m tired, I need to set a tape for a movie I wanted to watch tonight, and then maybe crash the rest of the night.   I’ll be playing catch up later on blogs, comments, and email.  Yep let it slip some again, but I will be catching up on those tomorrow.  Bye for now peeps and peepettes.

Which of you remember the Jetsons?

I was looking around Etsy the other day and I found my into a shop that was selling a very interesting item.

For the super duper low price of $1,500 you could own your very own Jeteson’s replica space car.

As you can see it’s resemblance is quite remarkable.  Now it doesn’t move on it’s on.  Meaning no motor, no pedals, no nothing.  You’d have to have someone push you around.  So it’s really pointless to have because the joy of having bragging rights that you own the Jetson’s car.  But hey, that’s worth the price of admission right there, am I right?  :-)  It’s amazing what you can find on Etsy these days.  It makes me wonder what other interesting things I may find on there.  You can learn about a lot of interesting things on Regretsy, but it’s usually stuff that they deem bad…and well I have to admit, they aren’t wrong on over half the stuff.  You should really check the site out.  Warning, some of the stuff on there is adult.  When I looked this morning there was a cap with an adult toy screen printed on it.  So umm…yeah.  This may not be a site to look at around the kids or at work.  But enjoy and be sure to share if you find anything cool on there.  Talk to you later.
